I actually made mad progress on the quilt! I went from having strips and squares to the completed front in less than a week! It’s nuts what you can accomplish with a) a napping two year old b) a cooperative crafting three year old c) a baby who isn’t sucking ALL the energy out of me and lastly d) a craft area all set up and ready to go! Oooooh, I’m going to enjoy that in the new place, that AND having a craft table in the kids room to keep their stuff there (minus the REALLY messy stuff which should be kept under lock and key).
Tomorrow I am getting into our U-Pak locker and gonna grab a few things, one being my cutting mat and ruler assuming it’s easy to get to. I need to also get some border fabric for the quilt, I might try to stop at Bib & Tucker on the way home and check it out. Luckily after I had cut the original shapes for this quilt I used the scraps to make the kids a doll quilt. Using the same fabric and the same backing, so I’m thinking I will just take that to the craft store and find a border…a lot easier than bringing this whole thing in. I’m also getting the quilting stuff out ’cause B said she wants to make a quilt. I dug through the small amount of scraps I have here and pulled some things…now she says she wants to make it for the new baby. I’m thinking if that’s the case and I’m going to be putting the energy into it anyways I might take her out shopping for fabrics…maybe flannels or something that she can choose from.
And here’s B showing off our finds from the Salvation Army for a total of $2.60, including the (small amount of) fabric. I’m pretty excited about the Mary Poppins book. I think it will be right up her alley, now if only I can remember all the songs… Especially good since we finished Wind and the Willows tonight and only have a few chapters left in Stuart Little. It’s so nice to have an actual story book to read at bed time, one chapter a night, instead of the same old Pooh stories (as much as I love the originals, they are LONG and talking like Eeyore can get quite “bothersome”). Marmar really liked the Gonzo, especially since you can take him on and off the trike. That toy and the sea horse were from the free bin at the Sally Ann. We ended up thrifting ’cause our plan for a mall playground was thwarted as it was overrun with kids. Instead we had snack in the Cinderella carriage then set off to find treasures. Of course I was looking for a record player but had no luck in that department.
It was a busy day. Started out with a trip to OB Discovery and the park, then off to Tanya’s house for our first Messy Monster’s club meeting. It’s a craft playdate once a week! How great is that? The kids made felt puppets which is just perfect for my kids as Marmar, especially, loves puppets/gloves. She has a great craft room! I can’t wait for my craft/guest room.

This was followed by lunching, napping and more crafting/quilting (yea!).
Playing
Kicking the ball for Watsi
Out to dinner
Grocery shopping for cheesecake brownies for tonights girls night in
Getting kids to bed
Making brownies
Talking with the girls then watching Muriel’s Wedding (!)
Now blogging, then bed.
But it must be said that when it rains, it POURS. So the hiring freeze is apparently going to be lifted as I mentioned before, but I found out last night that there is a job posting on a floor I have always wanted to work. It’s part time and 8 hr shifts. I’m going to apply for that because that would be my #1 choice. Today I also got a phone call saying I’m accepted for an interview with that government job! I was surprised to say the least. But as I have said to some people, by the time I had finished writing my essay for the exam I had convinced myself that I was ready for the job and really wanted it. Not only that, but when I was shopping for groceries tonight a (nursing) friend texted asking if I was, perchance, looking for full time work! Seriously, from 0 job prospects to 3 or 4! Just nuts.
While Marmar indulged in a 4 hour nap (?!), B and I did a little indulging out selves. Crafting. B continued to work on her Valentine’s cards (though really I think she was mainly gluing the jewels together and the cards didn’t get any embellishments) for the 3 day in a row and I whipped out my (brick road) quilt that I haven’t worked on in 2 months or so. Right, while I was trying to make some progress on it, I realized that I had misread the instructions and thus made more work for myself. It will also look MUCH busier than intended but…if it gets done, I’ll be happy. I think I have decided to make it into a cozy playroom blanket. One to climb under in a fort or cuddle under for books. Now my goal is to finish (yikes) it by the time we move. I had better work on it each nap time that I don’t get to nap. Hopefully B will cooperate with that plan.
I went from seeing the above on my way out of work….(who wants to walk by the MORGUE on their way home???)
She had gotten up with me in the morning (5:40 am) because whenever she knows I am going to work the next day she is super sensitive to sound. Anyways me and the kids had a nice EARLY breakfast together before I headed out at 6:30. Poor girl tried to stay up to see me when I got home. Unfortunatly I couldn’t leave on time, and arrived home closer to 8 then 7:30. She was sound asleep with the lights on. I turned on her closet light and her music, turned off her light and gave her a kiss. We’ll have fun tomorrow at music together once she’s all rested up.
Facts of the day:
- I almost puked at work for the first time in a REALLY REALLY long time. I won’t say why but know it wasn’t smell (I have learned to breath shallowly though my mouth anytime I enter a room).
- Laughed when another nurse almost puked in another situation
- Had an ok day
- Heard a head smack then rebound off the floor at 1840! No good.
- Learned that the VIHA job freeze should be lifted in the next week or two and I’ll get that part time I was interested in before
- heard baby’s heartbeat (160) using the doppler in the bathroom (PSA: foam soap does not replace the jelly), yes I feel like I need to check when I can since I’m not really feeling movement (or not defined movement yet) and I have no other symptoms besides general tiredness, though that existed before.
- discovered that “tomorrow” may be my favourite word to write.
I’m not usually TOO much of a sap. Today I saw this book at Chapters, I had seen it before but realized this time that I’ll have to buy it for B for her birthday. She’ll really get the concept now. Seriously more choking up, teary eyed, goosebumping (I should call it the Lloyd Dobbler effect) for me.
